Our Story

A Voice Crying In The Desert Outreach is an Evangelistic and Missions Ministry based out of Fort Wayne, IN. Our Calling is to go among those churches have the most trouble reaching and share with them the Love of God in a way they will respond to and accept. This is possible because Evangelist James Carter was once one of these unlovable and unwanted people that Jesus refers to as the “Least of His Brothers and Sisters” and thus can show them God loves all no matter what.

A Voice Crying In The Desert Outreach is organized as a non-profit, non-denominational Ministry which is separate from the churches but seeks to partner with and work with churches in the various communities the Holy Spirit leads us to so that those the Holy Spirit reaches through this Missions work will be introduced to a local church and shown that the local church does welcome and love them. With a plan to never be in one location longer than four days, with at most a one day extension, we are not seeking to disciple or lead those who come to know Christ through our Missions Work but rather to point them to the local church.

Evangelist and Missionary James Carter has an amazing testimony of God’s Love and Grace. How God pulled an abused, abandoned, rejected, orphaned mentally ill teen and gave him a new life and a new family. Led him to earning a B.S. in Computer Science and Business and a Master of Business Administration Degree with High Honors, followed by a 30 year career as a Business Executive. James is the author of two books, a Bible Study/Devotional: Walk The Narrow Way: How To Be A Disciple and a Historical Biblical Fiction Novel: Druid Wars.

A Voice Crying In The Desert Outreach began in 2022 when James Carter and Brian Penrod joined together to launch a Podcast on Social Media as The Evangelist and The Beard with the goal of sharing God’s Love and making the Bible both understandable and relatable to all people today. In 2024 we entered a new phase as James Carter began doing in-person Outreaches in Small Towns and Poor Neighborhoods across Indiana. Meeting those who need the Love and Peace of Jesus the Most face-to-face. We are looking to 2025 to be our greatest year yet as God continues to Move and open up many new doors, including bringing on new Ministry Partners and Team Members. Come join us and be a part of what God is doing among the Outcasts and Ignored of our Society.

Our First Vision

Thirty-One Years Ago, while praying during a Church Service, James Carter felt as if he was being transported into a different time and place. God opened his spiritual eyes to see a Vision of what would come one day in the future. This Outreach Ministry has set a Goal of seeing that original Vision come to pass. We invite all Believers and Churches to help us follow the Leading of the Holy Spirit to see how He wants to change the lives of people the world and so much of the Church has cast away.

“A line of semi trucks and and RV’s pulls up to a large parking lot. Waiting there are numerous Believers who have set up tables and grills. As food is being cooked to serve supper to those already gathering, brand-new clothing for children is unloaded from the trucks and stacked neatly on the tables. When everything is ready, families pass through the line receiving a full set of new clothes, including shoes and undergarments, for their children to wear to school.

As the sun begins to set, hundreds of the poorest people in the town gather in a large field or park. Many of them drug addicts, alcoholics, gay men and women, and the poorest of the poor. Yet, all are welcomed and treated with dignity. Through the time of worship and sharing, the Holy Spirit moves in a way rarely seen inside a Church Building. At the end virtually the entire crowd asks for prayer and begins to Live Saved with Jesus.”

Our Vision and Mission

Mission Statement: “To bring the unconditional love of Jesus to the marginalized and the hurting”

- Emphasizing the reality no one, regardless of who they are, what they’ve done, and what they suffer from, is beyond God’s reach.
- Engaging in short-term evangelistic outreaches in various communities.
- Going into areas suffering from poverty, violence, addiction, and trauma to share hope.
- Collaborate with local churches and act as a “bridge” to connect individuals with these faith communities.

A Letter From The Evangelist

Have you ever tried to share with someone and they do not want to listen because they think that you could not possibly understand what they have gone through? Well, that is part of the “Secret of Our Success”. I understand what they are suffering from. I understand deep down people who are hurting and struggling, and I let it show. I have been through virtually everything the People we are called to do Outreach among are going through or have gone through because I have lived through it as well and won the Victory through the Grace of God. This allows me to connect with and reach people Churches may be having a hard time bringing into their buildings. Opens up another avenue for the Kingdom of God and local churches to grow.

I am so excited both to see this Website launched and for the beginning of our 2025 Outreach Season. With the Grace of God and along with those He is calling to come alongside us as Ministry Partners as we enter this new Phase of Outreach Missions, I am believing we will continue seeing God move in Mighty Ways among those who need His Love, Peace, and Hope the most. Far too many have been cast aside or ignored by our Society. Yet, those are the ones Jesus spent most of His Time on Earth With. Those are the Ones He chose to call to be His Disciples and Closest Friends. How, then, can we as Missionaries or Churches do any less today?

Our first Outreach Missions Trip will be in New Castle, IN from April 30, 2025 – May 3, 2025. Our efforts will be centered around Baker Park while also fanning out through struggling neighborhoods in town. Throughout the next several months we will continue to move around the Region as the Holy Spirit leads, always looking to “Touch Just One” in the Name of Jesus. For us, it is never about the multitudes but about having a true impact on the life of at least one person in each place where we are led. That is the Model Christ set for us. When we follow it, the rest will take care of itself and the Kingdom of God will multiply.

None of this can be done alone, however. We invite individuals, businesses, and Churches to come alongside. Be a part of how God is moving. Pray with us. Pray for those who have no one and no hope. Pray for Workers as Jesus commanded. And, please, pray about whether to become a Missions Partner with us. The Holy Spirit is leading our Team on a Journey of Faith. Is He calling YOU?
